What is sulfate reducing bacteria?
Sulfate reducing bacteria is easily identified by the rotten egg/hydrogen sulfide smell and taste. It can make the well water essentially undrinkable when the bacteria are in high concentrations. Since the bacteria feed on naturally occurring sulfur or sulfate, it can be found anywhere, as sulfur/sulfate exists in most soils and a lot of our geology. It is often more concentrated near coal, sour oil and gas deposits.
Your test kit will include sample bottles and easy to follow sample collection instructions. When testing is complete, a report will be issued identifying any problems detected with your sample. Please note: this test package must be returned to the lab within 24 hours of collection.
